Rev. Rodney Norvell is originally from Corbin, Kentucky, the birthplace of Colonel Sander’s Kentucky Fried Chicken.  He received his undergraduate degree from Georgetown College '89 and his Master of Divinity Degree from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky '95.  In the past he has worked with the Kentucky Baptist Convention as a campus minister intern at Bellarmine College and with the Georgia Baptist Convention as a Baptist Student Union intern for Georgia Southern University.  He also served with several churches as a minister to students and has worked with Lifeway as Director of Music and Worship for several Centrifuge Youth Camps in the early '90s.  Formerly Rodney made his home in Charleston, South Carolina where he served as the Baptist Student Union Director for the Charleston Area Schools, including The Citadel, the College of Charleston, Trident Technical College and the Medical University of South Carolina.  In the fall of 2000 Rodney became the Baptist Campus Minister for Furman University and Greenville Technical College.  He is married to Dr. Marisa Norvell formerly of Leitchfield, Kentucky.  Marisa currently stays home to take care of their son, Jacob and volunteers regularly as a family physician at the Taylors Free Medical Clinic.  In November they are expecting a new addition to the family.

It is important for us to not just know about our God, but to know him personally in a live, active and growing way; and finally to seek to act upon his will for our lives and our group.  Know God; Grow in relationship to Christ; and
Go as the Holy Spirit directs!

Core Values:  (SWEEP UP)

Serving We follow Jesus example of leadership!  Just as Jesus came to serve we believe that we should seek to serve others.  Matthew 20:26-28

Worshipping We seek intimacy with God!  Corporately BCM gathers weekly to celebrate and praise our God.  1 Chronicles 16:29 Individually we encourage a daily quiet time with Scripture reading and prayer to advocate a personal growing relationship with Jesus.  Matthew 14:23a

Encouraging we want to lift one another up!  We desire to cultivate a culture of positive support and love for our campus, community and group.  Most importantly this is carried out in our treatment of one another and others to produce hope and endurance in every circumstance.  Romans 15:4-6

Equipping We believe that Christians should be prepared to help! We seek to train student leaders not only for their own spiritual growth, but for a lifestyle of service and evangelism to develop the body of Christ.  Ephesians 4:12

Pursuing We believe that salvation does not end with a decision to believe in Christ but that it is the beginning of a lifelong journey of following his teaching, obeying his calling and pursuing his character!  Hebrews 12:1-3

Unconditionally Loving We realize that we are all works in progress!  We don't believe that you have to change before becoming a part of our group, but that change takes place as we pursue Christ.  Even when we are disobedient to Jesus, he still loves us and died for us.  If he can give us that kind of grace how can we not show that kind of love to others regardless of their habits or lifestyle.  Romans 5:8

Praying We believe that communication with God is our means to understand his will and his ways! We also believe that he allows and encourages us to praise him, give him thanks, confess our wrongs and make requests to him.  Philippians 4:6

BCM isn't just about Bible Studies, Missions, Retreats, Friendships, Praise and Worship.  It is about Knowing God; Growing in relationship with Jesus; and Going under the direction of the Holy Spirit.
